I grew up rummaging through Chinese loose leaf tea boxes and other miscellaneous jars that were repurposed for storage of sewing supplies, threads, and other objects. Creating “Memory Box” reexamines this seemingly mundane family practice as a personal attempt to form understanding. The contents within the box consist of photos gathered intensively from albums, photo galleries and We-chat group-chats that span across generations and places of origins. Some images include myself, demonstrating growing ties to these people and places despite differences in language, knowledge, and culture.
